When she found the Source she left behind her waterpot to go tell somebody that she had found the One!
John 4 The Message (MSG)
The Woman at the Well
Jesus realized that the Pharisees were keeping count of the baptisms that he and John performed
(although his disciples, not Jesus, did the actual baptizing).
They had posted the score that Jesus was ahead, turning him and John into rivals in the eyes of the people.
So Jesus left the Judean countryside and went back to Galilee.
To get there, he had to pass through Samaria. He came into Sychar, a Samaritan village that bordered the field Jacob had given his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was still there. Jesus, worn out by the trip, sat down at the well. It was noon.
A woman, a Samaritan, came to draw water. Jesus said, “Would you give me a drink of water?”
(His disciples had gone to the village to buy food for lunch.)
The Samaritan woman, taken aback, asked, “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?”
(Jews in those days wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Samaritans.)
Jesus answered, “If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh, living water.”
The woman said, “Sir, you don’t even have a bucket to draw with, and this well is deep. So how are you going to get this ‘living water’?
Are you a better man than our ancestor Jacob, who dug this well and drank from it, he and his sons and livestock, and passed it down to us?”
Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst—not ever.
The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life.”
The woman said, “Sir, give me this water so I won’t ever get thirsty, won’t ever have to come back to this well again!”
He said, “Go call your husband and then come back.”
“I have no husband,” she said.
“That’s nicely put: ‘I have no husband.’ You’ve had five husbands, and the man you’re living with now isn’t even your husband.
You spoke the truth there, sure enough.”
“Oh, so you’re a prophet!
Well, tell me this: Our ancestors worshiped God at this mountain, but you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place for worship, right?”
“Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you Samaritans will worship the Father neither here at this mountain nor there in Jerusalem.
You worship guessing in the dark; we Jews worship in the clear light of day.
God’s way of salvation is made available through the Jews.
But the time is coming—it has, in fact, come—when what you’re called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter.
“It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth.
That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship.
God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.”
The woman said, “I don’t know about that. I do know that the Messiah is coming. When he arrives, we’ll get the whole story.”
“I am he,” said Jesus. “You don’t have to wait any longer or look any further.”
Just then his disciples came back. They were shocked. They couldn’t believe he was talking with that kind of a woman. No one said what they were all thinking, but their faces showed it.
The woman took the hint and left. In her confusion she left her water pot. Back in the village she told the people, “Come see a man who knew all about the things I did, who knows me inside and out. Do you think this could be the Messiah?” And they went out to see for themselves.
Amazingly this woman had had 5 husbands and now a “live in” and still she was not satisfied and her soul was empty, seeking God.
She found Him in the most unlikely place—at the time when everyone else was at home keeping cool in the heat of the day.
she met the Source of Life,
her Maker who is her Faithful AND True Husband.
She even left her pot to go carry the good news to others for she was the VESSEL made holy (set apart) for the Master’s use and she
CARRIED the living water to her people.
It’s Harvest Time
Father, out of Your honorable and glorious riches, strengthen Your people. Fill their souls with the power of Your Spirit
so that through faith the Anointed One will reside in their hearts. May love be the rich soil where their lives take root.
May it be the bedrock where their lives are founded so that together
with all of Your people they will have the power to understand that the love of the Anointed is infinitely long, wide, high, and deep,
surpassing everything anyone previously experienced. God, may Your fullness flood through their entire beings.
“Then the King will say to those on his right,
‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father;
take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. (Matthew 25:34)
Acts 4:31The Voice (VOICE)
31 They finished their prayer, and immediately the whole place where they had gathered began to shake. All the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began speaking God’s message with courageous confidence.
Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
I have made all these things. “That is why all these things have come into being,” declares the LORD.
And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me… (Luke 22:29)
…so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (Luke 22:30)
Listen, my dear brothers and sisters:
You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
“I accept your prayer; yes, I have chosen this place as a temple for sacrifice, a house of worship.
If I ever shut off the supply of rain from the skies or order the locusts to eat the crops or send a plague on my people,
and My people, My God-defined people, respond by humbling themselves, praying, seeking My presence,
and turning their backs on their wicked lives, I’ll be there ready for you:
I’ll listen from heaven, forgive their sins, and restore their land to health.
From now on I’m alert day and night to the prayers offered at this place.
I’ve chosen and sanctified this Temple that you have built:
My Name is stamped on it forever; My eyes are on it and my heart in it always.
As for you, if you live in My presence as your father David lived,
pure in heart and action,
living the life I’ve set out for you, attentively obedient to My guidance and judgments,
then I’ll back your kingly rule over Israel—make it a sure thing on a sure foundation.
The same covenant guarantee I gave to David your father I’m giving to you, namely,
‘You can count on always having a descendant on Israel’s throne.’ (2 Chronicles 7:12-18)
“But I, yes I, am the One
who takes care of your sins—that’s what I do.
I don’t keep a list of your sins.” (Isaiah 43:25)
Look at how Ruth’s heart towards her widowed mother-in-law AND her God gave
Ruth favor (grace) in the sight of Boaz and all the people of Bethlehem.
Look at how Esther did not rely on anything but, first Mordecai’s counsel then this eunuch’s.
but also all the kingdom.
Look at how Joseph was the favorite son of Jacob’s old age. Yet his brothers envied and hated him seeking to kill but ultimately betraying him. Yet God allowed this to
mature Joseph through afflictions and ready him for service in His Kingdom on earth
as it is in heaven AND used HUNGER to bring his brethren to their knees as God’s dream to Joseph showed.
Those who know they are not able without Him for apart from Him we can do nothing.
