While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” came and ate with Him and His disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?”
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and “sinners.”‘ But wisdom is proved right by her actions.”
If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners‘ love those who love them.
Matthew 11:19 – Luke 6:32
Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”
There is a balm in Gilead To make the wounded whole
There is a balm in Gilead To save the sin sick soul.
(Traditional African American Spiritual)
On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.“
Jesus said, “Come follow me and let the blind lead the blind and let the dead bury the dead.”
—But you GO and and preach the Good News of My Kingdom!
Jesus said, “If you were really blind, you would be blameless, but since you claim to see everything so well, you’re accountable for every fault and failure.”
If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
In Matthew 21, we see the father and two types of sons.
One rebelled and did not accept his father’s sound counsel, preferring to go his own way; later he had a change of heart and
did as the father had said. The other son, heard his father’s words and agreed with him but did not obey.
“Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.”
For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” were eating with Him and His disciples, for there were many who followed him.
Those that hear and do My father’s will are My family.
Now the tax collectors and “sinners” were all gathering around to hear him.
(All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.
Tax collectors also came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”
Luke 15:1, Luke 7:29, Luke 3:12
If you forgive men when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 6:14
Jesus is saying, “Never betray My trust ‘get over it’ and keep walking in My will for you.”
Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit. Some of the traveling teachers recently returned and made me very happy by telling me about your faithfulness and that you are living according to the truth. I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth. 3 John 1:2-4
For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught. Proverbs 3:26
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.
We have not because we ask not and when we ask we ask amiss so that we may spend it on ourselves. We allow competition and comparisons to RULE our lives and do not worship the Lord in spirit and in truth.
Interestingly, the word “success” means “an advance, succession, happy outcome,” from the Latin succedere “come after” meaning “accomplishment of desired end” (good success).
“The moral flabbiness born of the bitch-goddess SUCCESS. That — with the squalid interpretation put on the word success — is our national disease.
(William James to H.G. Wells, Sept. 11, 1906]
This is the Father who says that He desires above all else that men not perish but come to everlasting life through knowing Him as Lord and Savior.
It is the Good News and we are His messengers called by His name appointed in this time and place to PROCLAIM that Jesus is Lord – that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. That anything that seeks to usurp His rightful claim to our hearts is a trespasser–an invader—for we are not our own we are His bought with His precious blood to redeem us from the curse of sin and death. He is the head and we are members one another of His body. The body that builds itself up together in love perfecting holiness in the sight of God and man. We walk together as one in the Lord.
If our natural body was invaded by a renegade cancerous cell that was attacking a member, would not the entire body work to rid itself of that sickness? How much more the “church” which is the body of Christ? We are His temple not made by hands but by the Spirit of the Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If someone were to mar a beautiful edifice with graffiti would not the authorities be called to investigate the trespass? How much more the Lord wants to heal and deliver us from our trespasses against one another as members of His very own body?
He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love. There can only be one Head –Christ–our Savior, from Whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.
The one who sent Me doesn’t want Me to lose any of those He gave Me. He wants Me to bring them back to life on the last day.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of My hand. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will never drive away. For My Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 10:28, John 6:37, 40
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
1 Corinthians 1:21
Because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in His presence. Remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins. If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that.
For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.
