For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need. A friend always loves, and a brother is born to share trouble.
There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.
1 John 5:16-17
(Prayers offered in faith will save those who are sick, and the Lord will cure them.) If you have sinned, you will be forgiven. Remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins. “My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.”
James 5:15, James 5:20, Job 42:8
There is the long-suffering patience, or endurance of love–
(1 Corinthians 13:4) and that of faith (Hebrews 6:15)—Faith and patience are the keys to inheriting the promises of God. It takes joy and strength to stand on the promises. (Hebrews 6:11) Faith is loyal to the One who makes it possible to really love because He first so loved us that He sent His Only Son to bear our sin in his flesh and pay the death penalty so that He might raise us to newness of life in the Resurrecting Power of His Everlasting Love. God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7). We are not the sort that shrinks back in fear at the enemy’s terrorist threats and rude behavior for the enemy’s language is based on feeding fears with lies and deception based on APPEARANCES which are COUNTERFEITS. Things are not what they SEEM to be but we walk by faith and not by sight in the Son of God who gave Himself for us. This is the victory that overcomes the world–even our faith in the GREATER LOVE that laid down His life and took it back up so that we might enter into the Everlasting Abundant Life with the Father through Him.
If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.
Hebrews 10:26-27, 2 Peter 2:20-21
“‘But anyone who sins defiantly, whether native-born or alien, blasphemes the LORD, and that person must be cut off from his people.
“So do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petition for them; do not plead with Me, for I will not listen to you.”Do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petition for them, because I will not listen when they call to Me in the time of their distress. Then the LORD said to me, “Do not pray for the well-being of this people.”
Numbers 15:30, Jeremiah 7:16, Jeremiah 11:14, Jeremiah 14:11
In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones.”
Jude 1:7, Jude 1:14
So come on, let’s leave the preschool finger painting exercises on Christ and get on with the grand work of art. Grow up in Christ. The basic foundational truths are in place: turning your back on “salvation by self-help” and turning in trust toward God; baptismal instructions; laying on of hands; resurrection of the dead; eternal judgment. God helping us, we’ll stay true to all that. But there’s so much more. Let’s get on with it!
Once people have seen the light, gotten a taste of heaven and been part of the work of the Holy Spirit, once they’ve personally experienced the sheer goodness of God’s Word and the powers breaking in on us—if then they turn their backs on it, washing their hands of the whole thing, well, they can’t start over as if nothing happened. That’s impossible. Why, they’ve re-crucified Jesus! They’ve repudiated him in public! Parched ground that soaks up the rain and then produces an abundance of carrots and corn for its gardener gets God’s “Well done!” But if it produces weeds and thistles, it’s more likely to get cussed out. Fields like that are burned, not harvested.
I’m sure that won’t happen to you, friends. I have better things in mind for you—salvation things! God doesn’t miss anything. He knows perfectly well all the love you’ve shown him by helping needy Christians, and that you keep at it. And now I want each of you to extend that same intensity toward a full-bodied hope, and keep at it till the finish. Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them.
God Gave His Word
When God made His promise to Abraham, He backed it to the hilt, putting His own reputation on the line. He said, “I promise that I’ll bless you with everything I have—bless and bless and bless!” Abraham stuck it out and got everything that had been promised to him. When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they’ll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. When God wanted to guarantee His promises, He gave His word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can’t break His word. And because His word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable.
We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It’s an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek.
“ You are My friends if you will do all that I command you.”
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”
John 15:14, Matthew 12:50
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else…for vengeance is Mine, I will repay“, says the Lord.
For our God is a consuming fire.
John 13:34, 1 Thessalonians 5:15, Romans 12:19, Hebrews 12:29
The Sheep and the Goats
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on His left.
“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited Me in, I needed clothes and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you came to visit Me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a stranger and invite You in, or needing clothes and clothe You? When did we see You sick or in prison and go to visit You?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me.’
“Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite Me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe Me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after Me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help You?’
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life. ”
