“My people come to you…and sit before you to listen to your words…but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. Indeed, you as a prophet are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays and instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice. The house that is called by My name has become a gathering place for thieves. I have seen what you are doing,’ declares the LORD. You boasted against Me and spoke against Me without restraint, and I heard it.”
Ezekiel 33:31-32, Jeremiah 7:11, Ezekiel 35:13
God blessed them and said, “Be fertile, increase in number, fill the earth, and be its master. (Genesis 1:28) For your Creator will be your husband; the LORD of Heaven’s Armies is His name! He is your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of all the earth.” (Isaiah 54:5)
“But you have cultivated wickedness and harvested a thriving crop of sins. You have eaten the fruit of lies–trusting in your military might, believing that great armies could make your nation safe. The land is full of adulterers; because of the curse the land lies parched and the pastures in the desert are withered They make many promises, take false oaths and make agreements; therefore lawsuits spring up like poisonous weeds in a plowed field.”
Hosea 10:13, Jeremiah 23:10, Hosea 10:4
Why? Because you have turned from the God who can save you. You have forgotten the Rock who can hide you. So you may plant the finest grapevines and import the most expensive seedlings. They may sprout on the day you set them out; yes, they may blossom on the very morning you plant them, but you will never pick any grapes from them. Your only harvest will be a load of grief and unrelieved pain
You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth.
Isaiah 17:10-11, Deuteronomy 32:18
As I have observed, those who plow evil and those who sow trouble reap it. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
Job 4:8, Galatians 6:7:
Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it. You will work hard for nothing because your land will produce no crops and the trees will produce no fruit. Though in the morning it springs up new, by evening it is dry and withered. You will plant vineyards and cultivate them but you will not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because worms will eat them.
Psalm 127:1, Leviticus 26:20, Psalm 90:6, Deuteronomy 28:39
The opposite of Fertile (Fruitful) is Barren:
Not producing offspring or incapable of producing offspring.
Lacking vegetation, especially useful vegetation.
Unproductive of results or gains; unprofitable: barren efforts.
Devoid of something specified: barren of insight.
Lacking in liveliness or interest.
If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out My heart to you and made My thoughts known to you.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then he prayed again. It rained, and the ground produced crops.
Jeremiah 3:21, James 5:16-18
Elijah’s spiritual son Elisha in the name of the Lord healed the lands that they brought forth in abundance (2 Kings 2:19-22):
And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.
And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.
And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus says the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.
So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.
TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.
Luke 1:17, Malachi 4:6
However, if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves, pray, search for Me, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear their prayer from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their country. Then I will bring them to My holy mountain and make them happy in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar, because My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.
2 Chronicles 7:14, Isaiah 56:7
The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
“Sing, O barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD. For it is written, “REJOICE, BARREN WOMAN WHO DOES NOT BEAR; BREAK FORTH AND SHOUT, YOU WHO ARE NOT IN LABOR; FOR MORE NUMEROUS ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE DESOLATE THAN OF THE ONE WHO HAS A HUSBAND.”
Isaiah 54:1, Galatians 4:27,
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, And you must always obey the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good. However, the person who continues to study God’s perfect teachings that make people free and who remains committed to them will be blessed. People like that don’t merely listen and forget; they actually do what God’s teachings say.
Deuteronomy 10:12-13, James 1:25
So that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all His decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.
Deuteronomy 6:1, Psalm 91:16
Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in His ways. Blessed are they who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart.
Psalm 128:1, Psalm 119:2
To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Deuteronomy 10:14, Job 12:10, Micah 6:8
Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
“As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the LORD. “My Spirit, who is on you, and My words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of their descendants from this time on and forever,” says the LORD.
For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring, and My blessing on your descendants.
I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.'” “And afterward, I will pour out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
Isaiah 59:21, Isaiah 44:3, Isaiah 32:15, Isaiah 35:2, Ezekiel 37:14, Joel 2:28
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
