You were taught to change the way you were living. The person you used to be will ruin you through desires that deceive you.
Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes with that new and better self which has been created to resemble God in the righteousness and holiness which come from the truth. So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.
Many of us have created an enhanced image of ourselves–one that depicts what we believe others want us to be, what we wish we were, who we really are not. Predictably, we convince those around us to embrace a “me” that is more tolerable and less pathetic than what we know to be true. That image is presented to others to be loved. Our goal is simply this: to avoid rejection. And as a result we are never truly accepted. Evading the Light, we hide our hearts from the Father as well as from one another. Secretly fearing what lies deep within, we are determined to protect the reality we’ve created from ever discovering truth. Thus isolation produces loneliness.
And this is precisely the issue the “apostle of love” addresses in 1 John 1:7. When we as the Body of Christ walk in the Light, we are exposed for who and what we really are. With nothing to hide from God, we have nothing to hide from man. Free to be honest with both God and man, we are able to enter into true fellowship and God is able to purge us even further through relationships founded on intimate transparency.
Disconnecting our hearts from the truth, we attempt to give others shallow information about who we are–mere data concerning our condition. However this only serves as a facade, which imitates transparency but lacks vulnerability. Yet the two are inseparable. True transparency insists on vulnerability.
“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?”
“He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.” Romans 8:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:27
Father, help us to understand the meaning of true transparency. Help us to expose our hearts completely to the Light and to maintain no false reality of one another. In the Name that is above all other names, Jesus the Messiah, the Christ. Amen.
