A Handshake Agreement Stands: Your Word Is Your Bond
Whose hand are you holding?
2 Corinthians 6:14-18,
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believes with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
“But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou may do it. See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou may live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou go to possess it. But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish“
Again, I ask ‘Whose hand are you holding?“
“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
Is is the hand of a loving Father or that of a malicious stranger bent on deceiving you with flattering, seducing words to bait and switch you on a downward road?
The Father’s hand is there to lead and guide you home to everlasting, abundant life of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ the Son who was sent to set you free from the curse of sin and death.
The Father’s hand speaks wonderfully faithful and true words of wisdom and courage, “fear not only believe“….”do not fear, I will help you, walk with me.”
Jesus, like a Shepherd, leads you gently holding fast to your hand. His word is a light unto your path.
Whereas the stranger who comes as a wolf in sheep’s clothing seeks to devour you when you are at your lowest and he is ever seeking to drive you further down that road away from the Way that leads to everlasting life.
His ways are a confusing maze of fear, anxiety, obstacles, worries, distractions, discontent, and every other darkness.
The choice is yours: walk with the stranger, stumbling in the dark, never exactly knowing what lies ahead or take the hand of the One who loves you and longs to lead you into true freedom in rest, hope, joy and contentment.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.”
Father, take my hand today and lead me in Your paths of righteousness, for Your name’s sake. Yes even in the darkest valley, I know that You walk beside me so I can walk in peace knowing no fear for You never leave or forsake me. Strengthen me in Your wisdom and encourage me in Your love that in Your peace, I walk upright by the great light and stumble not. I let go of the “strange” hand that has held me back from Your great love and take hold of Your hand to lead me. AMEN.
