These are words of triumph and victory. To many it looked like Jesus was defeated. His disciples deserted Him and ran away in fear. His crucifiers sighed in relief that it was finally over. His friends came to bury His body and pay their last respects.
But Jesus didn’t say, “I give up.” He didn’t say, “I am defeated.” He said, “IT IS FINISHED!“
He said, “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!“
IT IS FINISHED MEANS:
The payment or ransom for our sins was completed. There is nothing more we can do to earn our salvation. It is finished in Jesus!
Guilt and condemnation which people had lived under for so long by trying to be good enough through good works was wiped away.
Jesus triumphed over Satan, sin, sickness, death and hell.
He took away the sting of death and broke the power of Satan.
The broken relationship and alienation from God was mended.
The restoration was now complete.
The Old Covenant was fulfilled and a New Covenant based on better promises had begun.
The last Passover lamb was killed. Jesus became the Lamb of God.
His blood and death became the Last Sacrifice ever to be required by God. IT WAS FINISHED!He is Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End — Revelation 13:8, “He is…the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. ” We are now more than conquerors through Christ because IT IS FINISHED!
Lord Jesus, Thank You for completing Your Mission so that I can walk in Your Victory. Today I speak to every negative situation in my life and declare, “IT IS FINISHED!” In Your Name, AMEN.
