Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom. Those who use and abuse each other, use and abuse sex, use and abuse the earth and everything in it, don’t qualify as citizens in God’s kingdom. A number of you know from experience what I’m talking about, for not so long ago you were on that list. Since then, you’ve been cleaned up and given a fresh start by Jesus, our Master, our Messiah, and by our God present in us, the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (The Message)
God Forgives the Repentant
God says, “Rebuild the road! Clear away the rocks and stones so my people can return from captivity.” Isaiah 57:14 (New Living Translation)
Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for? Matthew 16:24-26 (The Message)
Having a clear mind and clean conscience produces power steering. When your mind and heart are no longer distracted or blocked, God’s Spirit can steer you powerfully through life’s “high“way.
God Takes the Time to Do Everything Right
God, the Master, The Holy of Israel, has this solemn counsel:
“Your salvation requires you to turn back to me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves. Your strength will come from settling down in complete dependence on me—
The very thing you’ve been unwilling to do.
You’ve said, ‘Nothing doing! We’ll rush off on horseback!’
You’ll rush off, all right! Just not far enough!
You’ve said, ‘We’ll ride off on fast horses!’
Do you think your pursuers ride old nags?
Think again: A thousand of you will scatter before one attacker.
Before a mere five you’ll all run off.
There’ll be nothing left of you—a flagpole on a hill with no flag,
a signpost on a roadside with the sign torn off.”
Isaiah 30:15-17 (The Message)
There’s more: God’s Word warns us of danger
and directs us to hidden treasure.
Otherwise how will we find our way?
Or know when we play the fool?
Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh!
Keep me from stupid sins,
from thinking I can take over your work;
Then I can start this day sun-washed,
scrubbed clean of the grime of sin.
These are the words in my mouth;
these are what I chew on and pray.
Accept them when I place them
on the morning altar,
O God, my Altar-Rock,
Psalm 19:11-14 (The Message)
Shine Brightly for Christ
Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless. But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God, just like your faithful service is an offering to God. And I want all of you to share that joy. Yes, you should rejoice, and I will share your joy.
Philippians 2:12-18 (New Living Translation)
We all must walk upon this earth and work. The world may get us soiled and sorely used but it doesn’t have to cling to us, causing us to grind to a halt or make a detour.
Love is waiting scanning the road’s horizon watching to greet us with open arms.
Through the eyes of Love, faults are overlooked in a lavish brilliant shower of prayer and ministry. Love sees our destiny before we reach the Door and has purchased the cleansing agents and has drawn the bath. Love has already laid out clean new clothes for us. Love has prepared a nourishing delicious meal to strengthen and help us grow in our daily walk. But we must make the decision to turn the controls over to Love. As we release our control in sweet surrender to Love (God) we walk in true freedom.
But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. Galatians 5:22 (The Message)
Lord, help me to find strength today in quiet confidence that I may be receptive to Your will. My will is going nowhere; only Your way leads to life eternal. Thank You that my sins are pardoned and I am accepted as righteous because of the Lord Jesus Christ, Your Beloved Son. Thank You for providing me all things that I need to live a godly life
and for Your Living Word to wash me clean. Help me to read it and to listen to do as You steer me on the right way. I choose today to allow Your Living Word to permeate my whole mind, heart and being. AMEN
