Job: I was naked, with nothing, when I came from my mother’s womb;
and naked, with nothing, I will return to the earth.
The Eternal has given, and He has taken away.
May the name of the Eternal One be blessed. (Job 1:21)
Before time itself was measured, the Voice was speaking.
The Voice was and is God.
This celestial Word remained ever present with the Creator;
His speech shaped the entire cosmos.
Immersed in the practice of creating,
all things that exist were birthed in Him. (John 1:1-3)
God created everything out of nothing
God Confronts Job
Have You Gotten to the Bottom of Things?
And now, finally, God answered Job from the eye of a violent storm. He said:
“Why do you confuse the issue?
Why do you talk without knowing what you’re talking about?
Pull yourself together, Job!
Up on your feet! Stand tall!
I have some questions for you,
and I want some straight answers.
Where were you when I created the earth?
Tell me, since you know so much!
Who decided on its size? Certainly you’ll know that!
Who came up with the blueprints and measurements?
How was its foundation poured,
and who set the cornerstone,
While the morning stars sang in chorus
and all the angels shouted praise?
And who took charge of the ocean
when it gushed forth like a baby from the womb?
That was me! I wrapped it in soft clouds,
and tucked it in safely at night.
Then I made a playpen for it,
a strong playpen so it couldn’t run loose,
And said, ‘Stay here, this is your place.
Your wild tantrums are confined to this place.’ (Job 38:2-11)
It’s God’s Spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty One, that makes wise human insight possible. The experts have no corner on wisdom; getting old doesn’t guarantee good sense.
God takes away our fear through the faith that He gives us.
How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust,
And has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.
(Psalm 40:4)
He who gives attention to the word will find good,
And blessed is he who trusts in the LORD. (Proverbs 16:20)
Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD.
(Jeremiah 17:7)
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
(Psalm 119:103)
God’s Fulfilling Love
In this way, love is made perfect among us,
so that we should have boldness on the Day of Judgment.
For just as He is, so also are we in this world.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear.
For fear has to do with punishment,
and the one who fears has not been made perfect in love. (1 John 4:17-18)
Look! He is coming with the clouds, in glory. He will capture every eye, Even of those who pierced Him through. All the nations of the earth will be pierced with grief when He appears. Yes, may all this be done according to His plan. Amen.
The Wind Ran Out of Breath
Late that day he said to them, “Let’s go across to the other side.”
They took him in the boat as he was. Other boats came along. A huge storm came up. Waves poured into the boat, threatening to sink it.
And Jesus was in the stern, head on a pillow, sleeping!
They roused him, saying, “Teacher, is it nothing to you that we’re going down?”
Awake now, he told the wind to pipe down and said to the sea, “Quiet! Settle down!”
The wind ran out of breath; the sea became smooth as glass.
Jesus reprimanded the disciples:
“Why are you such cowards? Don’t you have any faith at all?” (Mark 4:35-40)
“You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm.
But Jesus rebuked the demon. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of him!”
Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without harming him.
The followers came to Jesus when He was alone.
They said, “Why were we not able to put the demon out?”
Jesus said to them, “Because you have so little faith.
For sure, I tell you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to over there,’ and it would move over.
You will be able to do anything.
*But this kind of demon does not go out but by prayer and by going without food so you can pray better.” (Matthew 17:19-21)
*by nothing but by prayer and fasting…Jesus (quoting Deuteronomy):
“It is written, “Man does not live by bread alone.
Rather, he lives on every word that comes from the mouth of the Eternal One.”
(Matthew 4:4)
God, the Eternal One, who made the starry skies, stretched them tight above and around; Who cast the shimmering globe of earth and filled it with life; who gives breath and animates the people; Who walks and talks with life-giving spirit has this to say: Eternal One: I am the Eternal One. By righteousness I have called you. I will take you by the hand and keep you safe. You are given as a covenant between Me and the people: a light for the nations, a shining beacon to the world. You will open blind eyes so they will see again. You will lead prisoners, blinking, out from caverns of captivity, from cells pitch black with despair.
And I pledge that I will pour out a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy
on the family of David and the citizens of Jerusalem.
As a result, they will look upon Me whom they pierced,
they will grieve over Him as one grieves for an only child,
and they will moan and weep for Him as one weeps for a firstborn son.
On that day, the grieving in Jerusalem will be as great as the pagans’ grieving ritual honoring Hadadrimmon on the plain of Megiddo each year.
We call Abraham “father” not because he got God’s attention by living like a saint,
but because God made something out of Abraham when he was a nobody.
Isn’t that what we’ve always read in Scripture, God saying to Abraham,
“I set you up as father of many peoples”?
Abraham was first named “father”
and then became a father because he dared to trust God to do what only God could do:
raise the dead to life, with a word make something out of nothing.
When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway,
deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do
but on what God said he would do.
And so he was made father of a multitude of peoples.
God himself said to him, “You’re going to have a big family, Abraham!” (Romans 4:17-18)
Jesus (quoting Deuteronomy): “It is written, “Man does not live by bread alone.
Rather, he lives on every word that comes from the mouth of the Eternal One.”
(Matthew 4:4)
But if your eye is clouded or evil, then your body will be filled with evil and dark clouds. And the darkness that takes over the body of a child of God who has gone astray—that is the deepest, darkest darkness there is.
True Wisdom Comes from God
If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life,
doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.
But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart,
don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying.
For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom.
Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic.
For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition,
there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure.
It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others.
It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace
and reap a harvest of righteousness. (James 3:13-18)
But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there. Make straight paths for your feet, so that the lame will not be debilitated, but rather healed. Pursue peace with all men, as well as holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life. (Romans 6:22)
So then, let us pursue what leads to peace and to mutual edification. (Romans 14:19)
Remember, man does not live by bread alone but by every Word that proceeds
out of the mouth of God…DEMONSTRATE Your ways, O Eternal One.
Teach me to understand so I can follow.
EASE me down the path of Your truth.
FEED me Your word
because You are the True God who has saved me.
I wait all day long, hoping, trusting in You. (Matthew 4:4, Psalm 25:4-5)
Make me hear of Your faithful love in the morning,
for I trust in You.
Teach me how I should walk,
for I offer my soul up to You. (Psalm 143:8)
He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father—
to Him be the glory and power forever and ever! Amen.
